President Donald Trump has directed US federal departments to intensify immigration enforcement, including rapid expulsion of illegal immigrants and the deployment of more troops to the US-Mexico border. Considered as necessary to thwart a "invasion" along the southern border, the policies represent among the most forceful ones taken by the government regarding immigration.

The White House unveiled the policies amid a development in accelerated removal policies. Previously limited to illegal immigrants caught within 100 miles of the border, the new regulations let immigration officials carry quick deportations anywhere in the nation free from court hearings. According to a Federal Register notification, the change—effective right away—aims to speed immigration decisions and lower costs.

"If you are thinking about breaking the laws of the United States of America, you will be returned home," white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, clearly stating the president's point. You get arrested. You face charges.

Apart from implementing tougher immigration rules, Trump has sent 1,500 active-duty soldiers to the southern border. This increases the current military presence meant to handle what the government regards as a national crisis brought on by illegal immigration.

This week's flurry of immigration-related activities by Trump consists in an executive order aiming at birthright citizenship and a national emergency declaration on illegal immigration. Both advocates and opponents of these actions have praised or criticised them depending on whether they are required for national security or compromise legal rights for immigrants.

Thousands of refugees are left in uncertainty as the government has stopped all travel and processing. Critics contend these developments could be contested in court, especially with reference to the revised accelerated removal program.

Significant discussion has been generated by the crackdown on illegal immigrants as advocacy groups warn of possible effects on immigrant populations and civil liberties. Still, the government insists that the steps are very essential for maintaining the border and safeguarding American citizens.
