The White House said that two new Ford-class aircraft carriers will be named after previous Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. The fifth and sixth ships in the class, the USS William J. Clinton and USS George W. Bush, will be built. They will take the place of the Nimitz-class carriers that are currently in use.

President Joe Biden told everyone about the honor and said that Clinton and Bush were "deeply humbled" by it. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin praised the choice, saying that these leaders showed "determination and dedication" while in office.

Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro chose to name the ship. It is customary to name aircraft carriers after U.S. presidents and other important people in history. Del Toro talked about how hard President Clinton worked to get the Good Friday Agreement signed and how strong President Bush was after the 9/11 attacks.

In the same announcement, Chelsea Clinton was named as the sponsor of the USS William J. Clinton, which means she will have a lifelong link to the ship.

This honor shows how vital these leaders were in shaping U.S. history. President George W. Bush joined his father, President George H. W. Bush, who also has an aircraft named after him.

The Ford-class, known for its advanced technology and abilities, will strengthen the U.S. Navy, carrying on a tradition of service and innovation.
