According to the North Carolina National Guard's confirmation, a hurricane aid distribution location in western North Carolina was accidentally disrupted on Sunday by one of its UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
When the incident took place, the chopper was delivering generators to a local community organization that had requested them beforehand.
A post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the North Carolina National Guard stated that the helicopter's rotor wash caused supplies to be blown away from the relief setup handled by civilians as the chopper attempted to land. According to the official announcement, "The crew immediately identified the situation, aborted the landing for safety reasons, and departed the area. "
The disruption occurred when the helicopter, designated by the call sign Fury 147, was traveling from Asheville to Morganton. While the incident was taking place, the online flight tracker Flightradar24 confirmed the aircraft's flight route.
As the low-flying helicopter neared the relief site, it was captured on camera and extensively disseminated throughout social media platforms. The footage showed the chopper tossing tarps and supplies into the air. An investigation into the event is currently underway, according to the North Carolina National Guard, which has confirmed that the crew has been grounded.
In addition, the National Guard is collaborating with the local civilian group to estimate the extent of any damage caused by the rotor wash.
