As the new president makes changes that will affect military policy, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George stays focused on preparing the Army for future battles. At an Association of the U.S. Army event on Wednesday, George spoke to almost 200 guests. He mainly talked about updating the military but also addressed worries about new policy changes.

When asked about President Donald Trump's recent executive orders affecting military diversity programs, transgender service members, and the reinstatement of discharged troops who refused the COVID-19 vaccine, George told the audience that the Army is managing these changes as part of its standard procedures.

"We are handling everything as we usually do," George said. “And I think you hear from this morning, we’re focused and haven’t had any difference, really focused on transforming the Army.”

Col. Dave Butler, George's spokesperson, stated in an email to Army Times that the Army is quickly following all instructions from Trump and the new Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. "Butler stressed that civilian-military control is essential for our democracy and that the Army will follow legal orders."

George was also asked about news regarding retired Gen. Mark Milley, who used to be the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and has recently lost his security clearance. The Pentagon confirmed that an inspector general inquiry has been started into Milley’s conduct during his tenure.

George emphasized that, despite policy changes, the Army's main goal remains the same: to stay prepared and update the force to handle future obstacles.
