Army Secretary Christine Wormuth removed a four-star general from his position as secretary of the army after he was accused of inappropriate behavior during the promotion process for a subordinate.
A spokesperson for the Army told Army Times that Gen. Charles Hamilton had been relieved of his duties because of the results of a review by the Department of the Army Inspector General.
Hamilton was fired on Tuesday. He used to be in charge of Army Materiel Command. Military.com was the first to report the shooting. Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan is currently serving as commander of Army Materiel Command. He will stay in that position until a permanent replacement is chosen.
The firing came after an investigation by the Inspector General found "credible allegations" that Hamilton improperly changed the command assignment of a former subordinate. Wormuth had already put Hamilton on leave earlier this year while the probe was going on.
The Army's decision to fire Hamilton shows that it is serious about keeping moral standards high among its leaders. The investigation's results show how important it is for the military to ensure that promotions and assignments of charge are fair and unbiased.
Hamilton denied the accusations as he was suspended last August.
