Bryson Daily’s record-breaking performance drove No. 19 Army to a decisive 27-6 triumph over Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl on Saturday night. Daily scored three touchdowns, increasing his season total to thirty-two and exceeding the 2013 FBS quarterback touchdown mark set by Navy's Keenan Reynolds.
"I'm quite proud of this senior class, the way we came together to have this season," Daily remarked. "To turn it around and get 12 wins is evidence of the fortitude of our team."
With Hayden Reed producing 114 yards and a touchdown on 20 runs, the Black Knights (12-2) controlled on the ground. Ranked No. 1 nationally at 298.9 yards per game, Army's superb running assault overwhelmed the Bulldogs (5-8), filling in for Sun Belt champion Marshall.
With a record-setting 21-play, 75-yard drive in the second quarter and an 8-yard touchdown run by Daily to finish its strict approach. Two third-down and three fourth-down conversions in the methodical drive left Louisiana Tech's defense worn out.
Army Coach Jeff Monken remarked, "They responded from a very emotional and difficult loss (to the Navy) two weeks ago with a great effort."
Two field goals from Drew Henderson and 92 receiving yards by Tru Edwards—who has entered the transfer portal—were highlights for Louisiana Tech.
Army concludes the season among one of the most successful teams, confirming its position among the top programs in college football this year.
