He stated, "We did win two world wars from Fort Bragg." Therefore, this is not the appropriate time to change one's identity.
In June 2023, Fort Bragg was renamed Fort Liberty as part of a broader initiative by the Department of Defense to eliminate names associated with Confederate leaders from military installations. This decision was the result of a three-year process that was initiated by a congressional mandate with the objective of addressing the legacy of prejudice in the military. An active-duty soldier at the rally inquired about the name change, prompting Trump to make his remarks. He declared, "We will revert the name to Fort Bragg, as I promised from the beginning," which elicited cheers from the audience.
