On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced Daniel Driscoll's candidacy as Secretary of the United States Army, calling him as a "fearless and relentless fighter" for the Army's future.

Driscoll, a North Carolina native and Army veteran, brings a combination of military and civilian experience to the position. Driscoll, a former Cavalry Scout platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division and Army Ranger School alumnus, has also worked in venture capital and private equity. Most recently, he worked as a senior adviser to Vice President-elect JD Vance, a Yale Law School colleague.

Trump stressed Driscoll's potential to be a "disruptor and change agent" within the Army, a stance mirrored by Driscoll in a recent PBS interview in which he pondered on the costs of military decision-making and the lessons gained from his time in Iraq.

Driscoll joins other Trump nominees for service secretaries, including Navy Secretary John Phelan and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, neither of whom has previously held high Pentagon positions. These selections illustrate Trump's desire for unconventional leaders to push military leadership reforms.

The nominees await Senate confirmation, with hearings scheduled for January 2025, when the new Congress convenes. If confirmed, Driscoll will lead the Army's operations during a period of shifting military challenges and strategic goals.
