The Pentagon is raising concerns regarding President-elect Donald Trump's intentions to remove senior military officers, citing the potential consequences for military operations and readiness. Sabrina Singh, Pentagon spokeswoman, emphasized the potential strain that leadership vacancies could cause, citing recent history as an example, despite the fact that Pentagon officials are refraining from direct commentary on Trump's proposed "warrior board" to evaluate three- and four-star officers.

The hold imposed by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) on hundreds of military promotions for nearly 10 months was cited by Singh as a means of challenging the Pentagon's policies on travel and leave for service members seeking abortions. This restriction affected more than 450 senior military positions, prompting apprehensions regarding the continuity of leadership, morale, and operational capacity.

Singh elucidated, "That will have an effect on the department, morale, and operations," drawing comparisons to the potential consequences of Trump's leadership overhaul.

According to reports, the proposed review is directed at officers who are perceived to be advocating for diversity or supporting mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations. The proposal, which was disclosed by *The Wall Street Journal* and *Reuters*, may involve officers who are associated with former Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley.

Military officials are concerned that these measures will exacerbate political pressure within the ranks. An anonymous Army lieutenant general expressed apprehensions regarding the potential for political scrutiny given the need to balance operational effectiveness. The Pentagon emphasized the stringent selection process for senior military leaders and cautioned that abrupt dismissals could discourage mid-grade officers from pursuing long-term military careers.

Pentagon officials maintain that they will refrain from speculating on prospective policies implemented by the Trump administration, despite these warnings.
