In Salem, Oregon, Maj. Tommy Vu of the Oregon Army National Guard has established a new world record by performing 1,027 chest-to-ground burpees in one hour at Lancaster Physiq Fitness. In addition to reclaiming his title, this extraordinary accomplishment surpasses his previous record of 1,003 burpees, which was established in March 2023. Vu's most recent achievement took place after another athlete temporarily assumed the title by performing 1,010 burpees in December of last year.
A sanction from Guinness World Records is currently pending for the event, which occurred on Saturday. Vu declared his commitment and determination to fitness, asserting, "I possess an unwavering determination; I cannot simply relinquish." His success is attributed to a redone exercise regimen that was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the closure of gyms, he modified his training regimen to emphasize bodyweight activities and outdoor exercises.
Linda, Vu's wife, and their son Adonis have been instrumental in his support throughout his voyage. Vu trains assiduously for an hour after work every day, ensuring that someone is present to supervise their son during his workouts, as Linda disclosed. Vu, who initiated his fitness voyage in 2020, has achieved numerous milestones and intends to donate $1,027 to a friend who is currently undergoing treatment for ALS as part of his charitable endeavors.
Vu's objective is to further challenge himself by attempting to shatter burpee records for eight, twelve, and twenty-four hours in the future. Vu's dedication to both military obligations and personal objectives was commended by Brig. Gen. Alan Gronold, the adjutant general of Oregon, who underscored the Oregon National Guard's culture of excellence.
