This weekend, Americans will come together to commemorate the 18 million veterans of the United States, which will culminate in Veterans Day on November 11. Although numerous events are scheduled nationwide, such as parades and ceremonies, some have been postponed due to inclement weather, safety concerns, or inadequate attendance.

After the tragic death of a child during the previous year's Veterans Day Parade, Raleigh, North Carolina, had to cancel the event for the second year in a row due to a disagreement between the city's officials and the parade's organizers regarding the implementation of more stringent traffic measures. The Chamber of Commerce in Rolla, Missouri, has canceled its parade due to a lack of entries. Simultaneously, Fort Myers, Florida, was obliged to withdraw for the third time in five years due to the complications of the most recent hurricanes.

Numerous communities are continuing to organize events despite these obstacles. The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and the Howard University marching band will be featured in a parade hosted by the National Veterans Parade Foundation in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. The parade in New York City, which is organized by the United War Veterans Council, is anticipated to attract 20,000 participants and nearly 300 units.

The official Veterans Day poster, which was created by former Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Myisha Godette features the symbolic military dog tag, symbolizing the 2024 theme, "A Legacy of Loyalty and Service." In his proclamation, President Joe Biden declared, "Just as they have maintained the utmost faith in our nation, we must sustain the utmost faith in them."

The nation's appreciation for those who have served and sacrificed is exemplified by events nationwide, such as the California State Capitol ceremony and the American Legion Post 535's visits to veterans in convalescent homes in Ohio.
