Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, a junior enlisted soldier stationed in Hawaii, has been accused of the murder of his 19-year-old pregnant wife, Mischa Johnson, who had vanished over three months ago. New charges were announced by Army prosecutors on Wednesday, alleging Johnson of the intentional killing of their unborn child and murder. Mischa, who was six months pregnant at the time, disappeared from their Schofield Barracks residence on July 31.
The allegations were brought after months of investigation, during which Johnson, 28, of Frederick, Maryland, was already facing other accusations. The individual was previously charged with obstructing justice, making false statements, and producing and distributing explicit images involving minors under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel's spokesperson, Michelle McCaskill, has verified that the evidence collected during the ongoing investigation substantiates the new charges. Mischa Johnson's body has not yet been recovered.
Johnson is currently in pretrial confinement as the military prepares for a preliminary hearing to ascertain whether the case will advance to a general court-martial. Upon referral, Johnson will be arraigned, and a military judge will establish a trial date. This investigation by the Army emphasizes the severity of these allegations and emphasizes the pursuit of justice for Mischa and her unborn child.
