Army Reserve Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. was shot and killed at Fort Eisenhower over the weekend. On Monday, 25-year-old National Guardsman Natravien Landry went to federal court to face murder charges. The Georgia military base was locked down for two hours after the shooting on Saturday morning.
Landry, a transportation soldier in the Georgia National Guard, is accused of stopping Stewart at the house of a past girlfriend during a break from work and shooting him dead. A federal investigator's statement says that Stewart had spent the night at the house before the fight.
The U.S. Army Cyber Command is based at Fort Eisenhower. In a short statement, they called the incident "isolated" and stated that Landry had been arrested. Stewart, a human resources specialist who moved from active service to the Army Reserve in 2023, was named as the victim by officials. At Fort Meade, Maryland, he was with the 400th Military Police Brigade.
Maj. Gen. Ryan Janovic, who is in charge of the Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower, told Stewart's family, "Our thoughts and prayers are with a grieving family." Safety, protection, and helping people who are hurt are still crucial to our team.
David Stewart, Landry's lawyer, didn't say anything about the case right away. People in the military are shocked by what happened, and it makes them worry about safety on military bases.
