Capt. Eric Hart Remembered After Non-Combat Death In Iraq

On December 28, in a non-combat event during his deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, 34-year-old Indiana Army National Guard soldier Capt. Eric Richard Hart passed away. On Monday, the Defense Department acknowledged the news, stressing that Hart's death is still under inquiry.

Hart, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 38th Infantry Division, Indianapolis, was indispensable in the Cyclone Division.

"The Indiana National Guard extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Capt. Eric Hart," the Indiana National Guard said in a statement. "He will be much missed. He was a vital member of our team.."

There have not been further specifics regarding Hart's passing. Hart's loved ones, as well as the troops serving alongside him during this trying period, will be supported by the Pentagon and Indiana National Guard.
